Siemens NX X is the cloud-delivered subscription edition of Siemens NX CAD. Engineers get the same NX they’re used to — solid modelling, surfacing, sheet metal, drawings — without the licence server, infrastructure overhead, or version-upgrade migrations that on-prem NX brings.
DDSPLM is a Siemens Smart Expert Partner deploying NX X to engineering teams across India.
What NX X actually is
NX X (also written as “NX-X”) is NX CAD as a service. Siemens runs the infrastructure, the licence server, and the version updates. You pay a predictable monthly or annual subscription per user. Engineers access the software through a browser-based launcher and a streamed desktop session; the experience inside NX is identical to the on-prem edition.
Three things distinguish NX X from on-prem NX CAD:
- No installation pain. New engineers can be productive within minutes of being licensed — they hit the launcher URL and start modelling. No IT ticket. No client-side install. No FlexNet licence server.
- Always-current version. Siemens applies updates centrally. Your team is never running an outdated NX version, never waiting for an internal upgrade migration project.
- Predictable per-user pricing. Subscription-based, scales up or down by user count. No capital purchase decision; no perpetual-licence amortisation question.
What’s included
The full NX CAD foundation — the same modules an on-prem NX seat gets:
- Part modelling (parametric and Synchronous Technology direct edit)
- Assembly modelling and large-assembly handling
- Drawings with automatic view generation and dimensioning
- Sheet metal and weldments
- Surfacing for class-A and organic geometry
- Drafting and PMI (product manufacturing information)
- Integration paths to Teamcenter PLM, Simcenter simulation, and NX CAM
Add-on modules (NX Mold Design, Progressive Die Design, Routing, Advanced Simulation) are available on the same subscription model.
When NX X is the right pick
- SMB and mid-market engineering teams that don’t want to run licence-server infrastructure or staff a CAD IT function.
- Distributed teams working across multiple offices or with remote engineers — no VPN gymnastics for licence access.
- Cyclical workloads where licence headcount changes month to month (contract engineering, project-based work).
- Greenfield deployments where there isn’t an existing on-prem NX installation to migrate from.
- Startups and scale-ups where capex on perpetual licences doesn’t fit the financing model.
When on-prem NX CAD is still the better pick
- Large enterprise customers with deep custom NX configurations, Teamcenter integrations, or in-house NXOpen automation — some customisations require an on-prem deployment until validated for X.
- Regulated industries with strict data-residency, air-gap, or classified-data requirements that won’t accept cloud delivery.
- Existing perpetual-licence pools with significant remaining amortisation — the economics of switching depend on the pool size and the timing.
We’ll model the cost comparison both ways for your team’s situation.
How a DDSPLM NX X deployment runs
- Sizing call. We review your engineering team — headcount, role mix, add-on module requirements, expected concurrent usage.
- Subscription provisioning. Siemens issues licences for the configured user count and modules.
- Onboarding. First-day enablement for engineers — launcher URL, authentication, sample project. Most engineers are productive within the first hour.
- Integration. If you use Teamcenter PLM, Simcenter, or NX CAM, we wire up the connections to your existing environment.
- Ongoing support. Annual renewal management, user-count adjustments, and add-on module expansion as your team grows.
NX X vs NX CAD comparison
| NX CAD (on-prem) | Siemens NX X | |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery | Installed locally | Browser-based, Siemens-hosted |
| Pricing | Perpetual + maintenance, or NX subscription | Monthly/annual per-user subscription |
| Licence server | Yes (FlexNet) | None |
| Version upgrades | Customer-managed migration project | Siemens-managed |
| Hardware requirements | Engineering workstation | Reasonable laptop + good network |
| Distributed teams | VPN + licence-server topology | Native — works from anywhere |
| Customisations | Full NXOpen, custom integrations | Standard modules; custom paths in roadmap |
| Data residency | Customer-controlled | Siemens cloud region |
