Simcenter SPEED is a concept-stage electric-machine design tool — much lighter-weight than a full electromagnetic FEA workflow, used for early sizing decisions before MotorSolve or MAGNET come into play.
What SPEED does
- Sizing calculations for major motor topologies — induction, BLDC, IPM, SPM, switched-reluctance.
- Performance estimation across the operating envelope.
- Quick what-if exploration over rotor / stator geometry parameters.
- Outputs that hand off cleanly to MotorSolve or MAGNET for detailed design.
When to use SPEED
- Early concept work where the question is “what motor topology and rough size do we need.”
- Coursework and education — many universities use SPEED for teaching.
- Vendor evaluation when comparing standard-product motors against custom-design alternatives.
