Simcenter Flomaster is a specialised 1D thermo-fluid system simulator. Where 3D CFD computes detailed flow fields, Flomaster models networks of pipes, valves, pumps, and heat exchangers as connected components — fast enough to do design-space exploration, accurate enough to size the system.

Why 1D for fluid networks
Building a piping system in 3D CFD is an enormous overkill for sizing decisions — the answer is dominated by component characteristics (pump curves, valve coefficients) not by 3D flow detail. Flomaster’s component-library approach captures the right level of fidelity for system sizing in a fraction of the compute time.
